Shout - Day 5 - Friday, October 28th, 2011

On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times. 16 The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the army, “Shout! For the LORD has given you the city! 17 The city and all that is in it are to be devoted[a] to the LORD. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid the spies we sent. 18 But keep away from the devoted things, so that you will not bring about your own destruction by taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel liable to destruction and bring trouble on it. 19 All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the LORD and must go into his treasury.”

20 When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city. 21 They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys. Joshua 6:15-21

AND THE WALLS CAME DOWN...

Nothing in the world is like the miracle of God bringing walls down. Whatever those walls may be. I've experienced this miracle in my life many times and seen others experience it right before my eyes. I've watched as a person who was tortured and crippled with unforgiveness and bitterness in their life towards someone who had hurt them deeply - finally let go of that unforgiveness and pain. And when that wall comes down, the floodgates of heaven open and peace like a river flows in with the type of healing that can only be expained when you've experienced it personally. I've seen walls of addiction crumble, walls of unbelief, walls of deep discouragement and depression, walls of doubt, and walls of hopelessness - all destroyed and brought down by the power of the Holy Spirit of God. God is the collapser of walls. He is the ultimate destroyer of ungodly fortresses that keep people in darkness and bondage. Only He can bring those kind of walls down. Not our own strength, or wisdom, or knowledge, or counseling - we need those things just as we need doctors and counselors - but God and God alone is the Great Physician - the Almighty destroyer of walls that seek to enslave us in bondage.

WHAT ARE YOUR WALLS TODAY?

Think about that for a few minutes. What seemingly impenetrable fortresses have an area or areas of your life trapped - unable to get past and be free? Where are you esnslaved and held in bondage? Is there someone you need to forgive and when you think about actually, really, deeply forgiving them you get sick to your stomach and can't even really entertain the thought? Is there an addiction you can't ever seem to really break free of? Are you stuck in a cycle of not having or being able to keep a job? Is there a wall around your finances that you can't seem to get over? I could go on and on, but I don't need to tell you what your walls are - you already know full well. Well let me tell you something today straight from the Holy Word of God - HE CAN BRING THOSE WALLS DOWN! There is hope my friend - no matter what that wall might be!

First - you must believe there is indeed hope. This passage we've been studying isn't just a great story that happened in the past for us to go WOW - that is awesome! It's a story of spiritual principles that we can out into practice today to turn a corner in our lives, see walls crumble, and begin to take new ground according to the great promises of God! That is great news!

Second - start today putting these truths into practice that we've been reading and discussing. Spend time in prayer, worship, in the presence of God just as we see the example of the priests blowing the trumpets before the ark of the covenent marched around the city. You begin to march around the walls you want to see crumble - singing the song of freedom thats in your heart as you seek God in His presence.

Third - keep going! God will surely bring the walls down! Your job is to continue to blow that trumpet and be in His Holy presence. God is your forward and rear guard as you continue to march. Let others around you speak into your life through prayer, words of encouragement and hope. You're not alone in this battle my friend - you are part of the army of God and we are here for each other! Open up to someone you love and trust that has the same hope in God as you do and let them help lift your arms as you wait in expectation for the walls to come down.

Finally - Shout! Let His praises fill your mouth and heart. Sing and make music in your heart unto God. Live a lifestyle of worship and don't stop. Worship on your own and gather with the rest of your church family as you shout together and worship the Lord. That wall will come down! And when it begins to crumble you will know it - and you will surely know that it was God Himself that brought it down. Talk about shouting! Like I said before - there is indeed nothing like the miracle of God bringing a wall down in your life. You will never be the same. Hope and faith will rise like a spring coming from the deepest place in your heart - and you'll be part many times over of helping others see walls in their lives crumble as well.

DAY 4

*You just read your lesson for today.

*Now take a time to worship and pray.

*Pray about the fifth and sixth of The Seven Areas of Life:

Marital and Parental
Pray over your marriage and your family. Ask the Lord to break down any walls of communication or hurt that may be a barrier in your relationships. Ask him to reveal walls that may be being built between you tht you need to pray together about.

*Pray for your church, it's pastor, leaders, people and community.

*Finally, close by praising God and thanking him for destroying the walls in your life that try to hold you in bondage. If you can, gather with your family tonight for a time of prayer. You'll be amazed how special and awesome it is and how it brings you closer together!

to the glory of the bringer down of walls :)

Shout - Day 4 - Thursday, October 27th, 2011

15 On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times. 19 All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the LORD and must go into his treasury.” Joshua 6:15-19

What is it about shouting? Kind of a strange thing to just shout into the air and stuff, right? Well, let's think about this. It's very human to shout - we shout all the time. Primarily in just a few ways though - either in anger or in joy, or just trying to be heard in some situation. We can yell at the dog or the kids, or at a car when we bust our knuckles working on it, or in traffic, and so on. Or we can shout when we're trying to get someones attention over a long distance, or over a lot of background noise. Or... we shout when our team scores a touchdown or makes a good play - a shout of joy and victory. Whole stadiums and even whole nations shout at the same time when their team does something good. There have been times, especially in the world cup of soccer, that when a national team scores or wins the game in the final whole cities erupt in cheering and shouting and it can be heard by everyone in the city like a huge roar. What if that happened from people shouting to the Lord? What would happen? Whe King David brought the ark back it was one of the greatest celebrations ever -

So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. 13 When those who were carrying the ark of the LORD had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. 14 Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the LORD with all his might, 15 while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets. 2 Sam 6:12-15

Guys, the presence of the Lord (represeted by the ark) is the greatest cause for us to shout for joy more than anything in the world! Infintely more than a sporting event! God is our eternal victory, our Champion, our Vindicator, our Redeemer, our Joy and the Strenth of our lives! He is worthy of us turning our heads to heaven and shouting with all our might unto him! Releasing our emotions and joy towards the One who has delivered us from the pit and set our feet on solid ground! Listen to what is written in His word about God's people shouting in joy unto Him:

Then my head will be exalted
   above the enemies who surround me;
at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make music to the LORD. Ps 27:6

May those who delight in my vindication
   shout for joy and gladness;
may they always say, “The LORD be exalted,
who delights in the well-being of his servant.” Ps 35:27

God has ascended amid shouts of joy,
the LORD amid the sounding of trumpets.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises. Ps 47:5-6

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.

3 For the LORD is the great God,
the great King above all gods. Ps 95:1-3

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,
   burst into jubilant song with music;
5 make music to the LORD with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of singing, Ps 98:4-5

Sing for joy, you heavens, for the LORD has done this;
   shout aloud, you earth beneath.
Burst into song, you mountains,
you forests and all your trees,
for the LORD has redeemed Jacob,
he displays his glory in Israel. Isa 44:24

The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,

   “Hosanna![a]

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”[b]

“Blessed is the king of Israel!” John 12:12-13

Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

   “Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and be glad
   and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready. Rev 19:6-7

And those are just a few! Guys, let your heart bring forth a shout to the Lord. If stadiums full of people cheering about a ball crossing a chalk line shout at the top of their lungs how much more should be raise our voices and shout to the One who fought the battle for all mankind through the sacrifice of His own blood, and conquered death and the grave for us! Let us shout for joy!!!

DAY 4

*You just read your lesson for today.

*Now take a time to worship and pray.

*Pray about the fourth of The Seven Areas of Life:

Physical -  Your body
Pray that God will show you how to take care of your body. Make some health goals for yourself that God shows you. Ask Him to strengthen you physically and heal any areas of your body that you are suffering in. Listen to Him about changes you need to make in your lifestyle that will improve your health, your strength, your endurance, your sleep, the joy you walk in daily and the length of your days on this earth.

*Pray for your church, it's pastor, leaders, people and community.

*Finally, close by letting everything go and simply worshipping Him. Maybe find some alone time today and let your heart bring forth a shout to Him. Might feel a little funny to shout alone but go for it! And then when  we gather together in corporate worship lets bring a mighty shout to God and bring the roof down!!

Love you guys and have a great day,

PK

Shout - Day 3 - Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

8 When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the LORD went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the LORD’s covenant followed them. 9 The armed guard marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard followed the ark. All this time the trumpets were sounding. Joshua 6:8-9

What trumpet are you blowing? What is the song coming from your life? When people are around you what song do they hear? If you picked a song that described what it is like to be in your presence what song would it be? I'm not talking about your favorite song, I'm simply saying what do you and others hear as the music coming from your soul, your mouth, your actions.

Now let me ask you another question. What would you like to be the song coming from your life? Is it different from what is currently there? What trumpet would you like to be blowing?

These might sound like kind of weird thoughts but bear with me for a minute. Every person on earth has a song coming from their life. You have a different type of feeling when you're around each individual. And each person around you picks up on the music that is produced from your character, your choice of words, your actions. For instance, some people are like listening to excellent classical music - they are peaceful, sophisticated, soft spoken, yet complex and meaningful. Someone else might be like a pop song, very energetic, positive, fun to be around, etc. Get the picture? It's an analogy that has faults, like any analogy, but for the most part it's a really revealing way to describe someones persona, the presence that they carry with them wherever they go. Being around an angry, spiteful, critical person who constantly uses harsh words and foul language is indeed another type of song, I'll let you imagine for yourself what that song would sound like to you. We all are blowing a trumpet guys - every single one of us. And everybody around us hears that sound loud and clear. Loud, or melancholy, or cutting, or meaningful, or depressing, or uplifting, encouraging, etc. etc. etc. etc.

So I ask you again, what is the sound people hear coming from your life? If it's not what you would like it to be then praise God for recognizing that - He is there to help you! God is very near you when your are broken hearted. He is the only true one that can fill your life with the music of Heaven. It all starts by being in the presence of God. Being filled with His Holy Spirit. Listen again to the Word of God:

the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the LORD went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the LORD’s covenant followed them.

Remember, the ark of the Lord is a physical representation of a spiritual truth. It represents the very presence of God. When we recognize ourselves as priests of the Lord, Holy unto Him and sanctified unto the Lord for His service through the finished work of Christ on the cross, we begin to carry around with us the very presence of God himself. And people, we will notice that! And everyone around us will hear that song and feel the presence of God's Holy Spirit when they arre around us! Even what we actually listen to in our lives will change! You'll find yourself wanting more and more to hear the song of Heaven, songs that exalt the Lord and bring you into His presence. The trumpet you are blowing will bring with it the presence of God to you and all who are around you!

DAY 3

*You just read your lesson for today!

*Now take a time to worship and pray.

*Pray about the third of The Seven Areas of Life:

Social - Your relationship with others
Pray that your life will reflect God to others. Take time to examine what it is you think is the sound of the trumpet coming from your life. Take time to examine if there are those you need to forgive and let go of past hurts. Ask the Lord to fill you with His Spirit, and fill you with songs of praise and worship in your heart. Ask him to make this scripture a reality in your life:

"Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." Eph 5:18-20

*Pray for your church, it's pastor, leaders, people and community.

*Finally, close by letting everything go and simply worshipping Him. Put on a worship song or slip your headphones on with a praise song on and stop everything - tell Him you love Him and that He is your God, your loving Father, your everything! Let your heart forget everything else and focus only on our awesome God! The Holy Spirit will fill you friends, the enemies of your soul will be thrown into confusion, and the walls around the new ground you are about to take will start to weaken and begin to crumble. WORSHIP HIM WITH COMPLETE ABANDON!

Love you guys and the music coming from your lives :)

Shout - Day 2 - Tuesday, Oct 25th, 2011

Joshua got up early the next morning and the priests took up the ark of the LORD. 13 The seven priests carrying the seven trumpets went forward, marching before the ark of the LORD and blowing the trumpets. The armed men went ahead of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, while the trumpets kept sounding. 14 So on the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. Josh 6:12-14

Notice the order of the way they marched. They had armed men in the very front and back (the rear guard) Then the were priests blowing the trumpets. Immediately behind them was the ark of the Lord. And following the ark were the rear guards. Today I want to focus on the ark of the Lord. Let's go back to when God showed His people exactly how to make it.

“Make an atonement cover of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. 18 And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. 19 Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at the two ends. 20 The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover. 21 Place the cover on top of the ark and put in the ark the tablets of the covenant law that I will give you. 22 There, above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the covenant law, I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites. Ex 25:17-22

The ark was built, as was the entire portable tabernacle the people were commanded by God to build, during their time in the wilderness after being delivered from Egypt. There the people met with the Lord. They had to follow incredibly specific instructions in order to meet with the Lord and the nation be forgiven of their sins. In the very heart of the tabernacle, in the Holy of Holies, sat the ark of the covenant. There in the Holy of Holies, God's very presence dwelt. Once a year, after following to the letter the instructions of the Lord, the high priest would enter behind the curtain, into the Holy of Holies, and present an offering of blood on top of the mercy seat, on the ark itself. If one thing was done wrong or out of order, the priest would be wiped out by the sheer power of God's holy presence, and they would have to drag him out with a rope. If all was done right, the sins of the nation would be forgiven and washed away for the past year. And the preist would breath a huge sigh of relief!

Guys, that same ark of the covenent was placed in Solomons temple in the time of Jesus. The nation of Israel still followed that pattern. Yet you probably know what happened on the day Jesus was crucified - His blood, the blood of the spotless Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, was applied to the mercy seat and the sins of all mankind were removed past, present and future - Praise God!. And the veil, or curtain, that seperated mankind from being in the presence of God, was torn, top to bottom, revealing the ark of the covenant to us all. We, who worship Jesus and trust in His blood to make us righteous before God, are now priests of the Most High who have full and complete access to the very presence of God Almighty!

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. Rev 1:5-6

So back to Jericho and the instructions God gave Joshua to destroy the city and take the land He had promised them. The priests, who we have now become in the New Covenant that Jesus established by offering Himself as the spotless lamb, were to blow their trumpets with the ark directly behind them. People, we must go with the ark! We must go with the presence of God! And how do we go into battle with the presence of God with us? Worship, worship, worship, it is about worshipping our Lord with total abandon - blowing our trumpets for all to hear that we love our God, we serve Him, we trust Him, and He is exalted above all the earth! Worship confounds the enemy, fixes our minds on God, strengthens our spirits for battle, and brings down the walls!! One more quick story:

He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. 16 Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. 17 You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.’”

18 Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the LORD. 19 Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the LORD, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.

20 Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.” 21 After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his[c] holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying:

   “Give thanks to the LORD,
   for his love endures forever.”

22 As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. 23 The Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the men from Mount Seir to destroy and annihilate them. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they helped to destroy one another. 2 Chronicles 20:15-23

Guys, to turn the corner in your life from survival to taking ground, you must begin to have a lifestyle of worshipping the Lord! Blowing your trumpet and announcing that you are coming in the name of the Lord with the presence of God with you! You can worship anywhere, anytime. In your car, in the shower, etc. etc... And when we gather together as the people of God in corporate worship - let your heart soar in total abandon unto your King, singing, clapping, shouting, jumping, and we will see the walls come down!

DAY 2

*You just read your lesson for today!

*Now take a time to worship and pray.

*Pray about the second of The Seven Areas of Life:

Psychological - My Mind, Will and Emotions
Pray that the Lord will align your mind, will, and emotions with what He wants for you. Ask the Lord to renew your mind through His word, and to give you power to not let your emotions control your decision - but His truth and His truth only will control the decisions you make each and every day.

*Pray for your church, it's pastor, leaders, people and community.

*Finally, close by letting everything go and simply worshipping Him. Put on a worship song or slip your headphones on with a worship song on and stop everything - tell Him you love Him and that He is your God, your loving Father, your everything! Let your heart forget everything else and focus only on our awesome God! The Hly Spirit will fill you friends, the enemies of your soul will be thrown into confusion, and the walls around the new ground you are about to take will start to weaken and begin to crumble. WORSHIP HIM WITH COMPLETE ABANDON!

God bless you all today, I can feel the praises rising already :)

Love you, Pastor Kenny

Shout - Day 1 - Monday, October 24th, 2011

Every Day this week I'll be posting a short, encouraging lesson to help you move from a place of survival to a mindset of taking ground. I'm talking about taking your life back and going on the offensive into the dreams, hopes, visions, and calling that dwell in your heart and Spirit. This is not a "name it and claim it" mindset, it's something that God is teaching me from His word about leaving behind wrong thinking, sin, and discouragement and moving towards obedience, faith, and vision for the future God has for me, you and the body of Christ. I've been reading and meditating on the book of Joshua for several months now, taking in other passages from scripture as well as some books I've been reading by various authors, and I want to share some things I believe God is showing me about this subject. So here's what I'll be doing this week, which will culminate in this Sunday's service at Elevation when we gather together to worship. Let me start with a little more background.

In Joshua chapter six, God's people, led by Moses' successor Joshua, were directed by the Lord very specifically on how to fight the very first battle they were to undertake as they entered the promised land. They had wandered in the desert for the last 40 years until the unbelieving generation actually died off, and a new generation had grown up and was ready to leave the wilderness and begin taking ground in the new land by faith. Almost forty years before this day, Moses had sent spies into the land and all of them, except two men, Caleb and Joshua, came back saying there was no way they could take the new land, the people were too big - their weapons were better, and blah, blah, blah, we can't take the land. The people listened to this bad report and they rebelled as unbelief filled their hearts. They complained, grumbled and ultimately rejected the plan to go in and possess this new land as God had promised. Their thinking was wrong, they were disobedient and rebellious and had swallowed the bitter pill of discouragement. Their fate was sealed for the next 40 years.

Jump back ahead now to Joshua 6 and the battle of Jericho. The generation that rebelled against God has died off and Joshua is about to lead this new generation into the first battle, at the command of God. They had crossed the Jordan through by the mighty hand of God and were perched on the ready to begin by taking the city of Jericho. One thing I want to put into your heart right away is this - when you turn the corner from survival to taking ground, it doesn't mean you're not going to be fighting battles - on the contrary, you WILL be fighting battles my friends, possibly even more! The difference is the battles you fight now will be offensive battles that move you INTO the promises of God instead of wandering around fighting off all the junk we battle against when we're in places of sin, disoebience and discouragement. We have to leave those things behind us friends and follow God into battles that move us into the dreams, hopes, and calling HE has PUT IN our HEARTS.

God told Joshua the battle plan:

2 Then the LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. 3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. 5 When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.” Joshua 6:2-5

So for the next six days I'm giving you a challenge to discipline yourself spiritually and prepare to turn some corners in your life. Here's the challenge:

1.) Find some time each day to read this lesson and meditate on God's word.

2.) Just as the priests carried the Ark, which represents the presence of God to us now, you take time each day this week to be in God's presence through worship and prayer. After reading the lesson spend a few minutes worshipping God and praying, inviting the Holy Spirit to fill you, teach you, guide you, and comfort you.

3.) Specifically pray over each of the seven areas of your life (which I will list for you), one or two each day, for six days straight.

4.) Pray for Elevation Church, or whatever church you are a part of, to turn a corner and begin taking new ground, rescuing souls unto slavation, and bringing healing and hope to our people and our community.

5.) Close by asking the Lord to give you an obedient heart, fresh insight, revelation, courage and hope to fulfill the plans He has for you, as you leave behind the things that keep you wandering in the desert - disobedience, sin, fear, and discouragement. Let a heart of repentance fill you as you receive forgiveness and new joy!

Will you accept this challenge today? And if you miss a day, just move on and keep going! This isn't a religious, notch on your belt thing - it's simply disciplining yourself to the Lord to bring you into a new place of faith, obedience, hope and healing.

DAY 1 - TODAY'S LESSON

*You just read your lesson for today!

*Now take a time to worship and pray.

*Pray about the first of The Seven Areas of Life: (Let's add one on and call it 8)

Spiritual – My Relationship with God

Psychological - My Mind, Will and Emotions

Social – My Realtionship with Others

Physical – My Body

Financial – My Money

Marital – My Marriage

Parental – My Children

Vocational - My Contribution (the 8th one we added :)

So start today by praying over your spiritual life - that your relationship with God would grow in depth and closeness.

*Pray for your church, it's pastor, leaders, people and community.

*Finally, close with honest repentance, choosing to let go of the things that hinder your walk with God, and receieve forgiveness, joy and strength to fight new battles - battles of taking ground!

God bless you guys, I hope this is really going to be an encouragement to you. I know it has meant so much to me as God has been woking with me to leave the past behind along with the junk that hinders my life, and turn the corner to begin fighting new battles and rescuing souls!

Love you and look for tomorrow's lesson in the morning!
